From our practical experience at For Change working with numerous families at risk, we've observed that no matter what we do with the children, achieving success becomes very difficult if we don't work comprehensively with the parents. The idea is to engage parents and extend the family circle to change their attitudes and priorities. They should realize their roles and responsibilities and be willing to shift their priorities. We want to engage specialists such as social workers, medical professionals, psychologists, lawyers, and others, if necessary, to help the parents to create a plan for change. With the donations from this fund, we will provide support in dealing with institutions, offering assistance, counseling, and any other necessary help to the parents so that they can raise their children in safer environment.

In 2024, the Child and Space Association will celebrate its 20th anniversary. It all started in 2004 as a small organization, but the meeting with the children from the unfortunate home in Mogilino village transformed us into a provider of social services for children and youth with disabilities and mental suffering. Today we already manage 9 social services, with a team of 85 specialists and a very small administrative team consisting of 3 people. To mark our anniversary, we would like to organize a series of meetings where staff from our different services can come together and share their experiences, meet the children in our care and visit each other, show off and before society. Until now, we have not had such an opportunity. We also want to share with society our successes, knowledge and experience, to present our teams and our grown-up children, who are now young people looking for opportunities for realization. The Small Group Home for young children in Lyulin (Sofia, Bulgaria) was established as part of a project by a non-governmental organization in collaboration with Sofia Municipality. It comprises an apartment where children ranging from 5 to 12 years old are accommodated. All of them have some form of illness or mild disability, and their families are facing difficult socio-economic circumstances, making it challenging for them to provide adequate care. The children are looked after by a social worker and women who are with them around the clock. These children have now grown older. The oldest girl is 19 years old and attends high school, while the others are teenagers. The only boy among them, the brother of the 19-year-old girl, is 9 years old. Presently, three girls and three teenagers reside in the Lyulin apartment. They attend school and participate in a therapeutic workshop at the "Hedgehogs" Center, which is also overseen by our organization. Through donations, we provide them with opportunities for vacation and variety - every summer, they have the chance to visit the sea and the mountains. The sea, in particular, is their most cherished destination. These young individuals possess diverse interests, and it is our responsibility to offer them extracurricular activities that they find enjoyable, activities that will contribute to their personal growth and well-being. Thus far, we have identified several fitting activities that align with their interests, such as drumming in the Rhythm Workshop, dancing, swimming, soccer, theater, and more. To facilitate these activities, we require funds to cover participation costs, as well as expenses for transportation and an accompanying staff member. Within the Center, there is a woman who cannot leave due to her responsibilities in meal preparation, cleaning, and ensuring the children's attendance at school. An African proverb aptly characterizes our situation: "It takes a village to raise a child"! Through your support, we aim to provide our teenagers with their preferred sports and activities, enabling them to develop their skills, fulfill their potential, and experience well-being and happiness. Financial Goal: $4,000 USD (for one year, covering sports and engaging activities for leisure time for 6 children).

The purpose of this fund is to continue providing professional care and support for 10 children and youths with severe disabilities. We have attracted to our side the best kinesiotherapist (Rada) in the city of Ruse, Bulgaria with enormous experience. She is a teacher at the University of Ruse and has known some of our young people for 15 years. We would like to ensure her support and care for our children and youths with severe disabilities for another 12 months (for 2 years we received donations for her, as the municipality/state do not ensure her work). This is not just a fad. This is an opportunity to observe the children in their everyday life, in their usual environment. In this way, the postures that are most favorable for them are discovered, and the movements that are possible for them, as well as those that they can be encouraged to do, are outlined. An example of Rada's work is with Miss Violetta - The condition at the beginning of rehabilitation a year ago was difficult. Violeta has severe thoracic kyphosis, frequent nervousness, and insomnia. Standing up made her nervous; she couldn't walk, and she had a panicky fear of being in a different position. Now she fully cooperates during the rehabilitation activities: she can walk, sit independently and safely. She likes physical activity, it calms her down and brings her happiness, which can be read in her expression. We can say that she is making huge progress in her development – she plays fit-ball and likes to push a wheelchair, and during these exercises, she receives instructions that she understands. The results that are achieved are exceptional, not because we make miracles at the center, but because the real existing opportunities for the development of each child are used professionally. Through your support, we will continue to provide professional care for children and youths with disabilities so that they can develop their skills and reach their full potential, feel good, and be happy. Financial goal: 7000 USD (1000 BGN per month or 12 mounts professional support)

The funds from this campaign will help the children with necessary equipment, supply necessary materials, cover travel expenses, and offer food and meals. This is instrumental for students who are unable to purchase them.

The war in Congo has had devastating consequences, leaving countless children orphaned and without the support and care of their parents. In the face of such tragedy, we must come together to assist and support these vulnerable children. Meet Nikola Tsolov, the 16 years old Bulgarian racing star on his challenging journey to Formula 1. He started his karting career in 2016 and became champion of Bulgaria in 2016 and 2017. In 2019, he won the Italian WSK Open Cup against 60 racers. He was invited by Fernando Alonso to drive alongside him in the 24h Endurance race in Dubai in 2021, where they finished third. Supported by Fernando Alonso, Nikola joined A14 Management and the Alpine Drivers Development Program, who grow and develop racers for the Alpine Formula 1 team. In 2021, his first year in F4, Nikola became Spanish F4 Champion with most wins, poles and fastest laps. This paved his way to FIA Formula 3, where he became the youngest driver on the grid and competed in 2023, driving for the ART team. Formula 3 races are held together with Formula 1 races and Nikola proudly wears his Bulgarian flag–painted helmet in the paddock and on the track, and hopefully on the podium too! But here’s the challenge: motorsport is expensive and Nikola needs to raise funds to pay for his participation in the Formula 3 season in 2024. The money are needed to: • Pay the team for the seat in the car • Equipment and safety gear • Training and practice sessions • Fees and costs for every race Nikola’s career and journey is funded by his family, who put their money, effort and time behind him and look for various sponsors. Sponsors contribute a significant amount already, yet, more is needed to secure Nikola’s place on the Formula 3 grid in 2024. 13 years ago, hope was born - “Hope for the Little Ones” Foundation. The idea for the Houses for the Little Ones (or as we call them, the “tiny houses”) was started because of our desire for young children and babies not to live a single day in institutions. Now there is not one, but two Houses for the Little Ones. Оur hands and hearts have touched 175 children in total! 150 of these kids are with families now. At the moment we taking care of 17 babies and kids at “Tiny Houses”. Three years ago we started a "Mobile team" to support families to NOT leave their kids in institutions. For this time we supported over 150 families. We need funds for a variety of activities: - milk and food for the kids, diapers, wet wipes and cosmetics - teaching materials for school - laptop for some of the children - access to online learning platforms - private lessons in the subjects that are difficult - assistance for enrollment in kindergartens and schools - medicines and specific examinations - renovation for the “Tiny houses” and the gardens - additional health insurance for the children

He was happy, healthy, strong, and mischievous. He loved chasing his older brothers and sneaking treats to the family dog. Shortly after his first birthday he started getting sick. There was no rhyme or reason for it. He got sick back-to-back and began to struggle. When cancer was the leading prognosis, his doctors pushed for Axel to get more lab work ASAP. That push led him to the emergency room, which saved his life. It was ultimately discovered that he did not have cancer but instead was in full heart failure. After every level of testing, the cause is still unknown. He was fading fast and his best hope was being transported to Stanford Children’s Hospital. Axel held on long enough to be placed from the gurney to his hospital bed where his vitals plummeted. Emergency procedures were used to save his life that night. His parents could only watch in horror as the medical teams tried their best. His parents remember optimistically, yet naively, asking, “there’s still a chance his heart will just heal itself, right?” There was a pause and a very soft, but firm response. “Axel is critically ill. A part of his heart has died. He needs a transplant. Axel needs a new heart.” Since then, teams of doctors and machines have been used to keep him going. Axel is recovering on a Ventricular Assist Device (VAD). He is hooked up to machines that keep him alive and he cannot leave the hospital until after transplant. Axel's parents take turns being with him at the hospital and being home with his brothers. The need to be present with Axel has caused the family to be reduced to one income. For Axel and his family, this is a difficult marathon. With medical bills and expenses beginning to pile on, the family is seeking help from COTA to keep their family strong and help relieve some of the financial stress as they move through this journey together. For the purchase of 2 specially-developed Arcana instruments - for inclusion of children and adults with various disabilities through music. The creator of the instrument aimed precisely at the development of such a product, which would meet the possibilities of people with specific needs to make music, play, and have fun. We would like to implement the 2 Arcana instruments in our day care and therapy centers (one in Sofia and one in Ruse), where we work with over 150 children and youth with disabilities and mental sufferings (including autism and autistic spectrum). Our main goal is to upgrade our work by giving them new opportunities for expression, creativity, to develop their potential, and at the same time to be used for therapeutic work - calming, concentration, crisis management. The instrument is easy to use, designed for inclusion, adaptable and versatile, easy to teach, easy to learn and play, suitable for all ages, skills, and abilities. The main customers include - Daycare centers, Rehabilitation centers, occupational therapists, special-needs schools, elderly homes hospitals, etc. Through your support, we can be one of the first organizations that will implement in their work this specialized Arcana instrument for making music by children and young people with disabilities and mental sufferings in Bulgaria. In 2022, we supported 217 children and young people with disabilities/mental sufferings and their parents/caregivers: 24 hours care of 35 children and young people abandoned from their parents in 4 small group homes, within our three Day care centers we provided day care and specialized therapeutic support to 97 children and young people with disabilities/mental sufferings, and in the centers for social rehabilitation and integration we supported 91 children and their parents. The main activities of the Association aim to provide support and hope to children at risk and to children and youth with specific needs and their families. We strive to improve living conditions and relationships in society so that every child can realize his rights. Through complex services and an individual approach, we create for these children and young people a space for creativity and expression, for their families - an environment for support, sharing and growth, and for specialists who work with children - opportunities for exchanging experience, for cooperation and building of professional capacity.
